Vertical Blinds General information
All of our vertical blinds are manufactured utilising a slimline 28mm aluminium headrail available in white or dark brown as standard. Supported by brackets at no more than 1219mm (48") intervals it is possible to have a single run unit up to a maximum width of 5 metres (196”) the maximum recommended drop is 4 metres (157") although it is technically possible to produce drops longer than this, it then becomes dependant on the fabric that is used.
Over the years 89mm (3½") slat has become the standard fabric width replacing the 127mm (5") slat, this was the only size available way back when vertical blinds were generally known as 'office blinds' and with a very restrictive fabric compliment they only seemed to venture into private dwellings as the alternative to draw curtains at patio windows. In more recent times the ever increasing choice of decorative fabrics and the protrusive profile of handles on the upvc casement windows has seen very little demand for the wider of the two slats. However, because headrails can last forever we still carry plenty of 5" stock.
Each slat is individually sewn, we do not use glue as, although the prodution process would be much quicker, over a period of time the resin in the glue tends to yellow and becomes unsightly on lighter coloured fabrics. Within the sewn pockets, at the top is a hanger which simply hooks over the truck that is corded within the traversing headrail. The bottom pocket envelopes the fabric weight which is linked to the adjacent slat weights by a stabilising chain, the purpose of this is to hold all slats parallel to each other at all times preventing them form blowing about or intertwining. As an alternative it is possible to sew a weight into each individual slat which eliminates the need for stabilising chain, we will do this on request and without extra charge.
Operation of our slimline vertical blind is by way of corded rail with a one way or split draw, this choice needs to be determined at the time of order. Rotation of the fabric is by an acetal ball chain which allows a nice fluid action, the trucks are self aligning and should misalignment occur it is easily rectified by the chain action. With child safety in mind their are numerous precautions and gadgets that we can incorporate throughout the manufacturing process. It is very easy to produce vertical blinds without any cording whatsoever, we find that the compromise on aesthetics and functionality is something that the vast majority of Customers do not wish to accept but the solutions exist freely and retrospectively so please bear this in mind.
We ask that measurements are taken in millimetres and on a recess basis, this allows the tightest fit possible allowing for the tolerance adjustment that we automatically factor at the time of production. The finished size of the vertical will always be 10mm less overall than the measurements provided. If you require an outside recess application or specifically need the blind coverage to be accounted then please ensure that you add the above tolerance to your resulting measurment as a minimum amount, and more importantly that you have the additional room required for fitting the blind.
